Friday’s Fave Five # 19

springtime FF5

It seems to me that time is going by so quickly.  So very quickly.

But it is that time of the week again.  It’s Friday.

Summer break is over for us and the girls start school next week.  I have mixed feelings about this.  It’s  great to have laid back days, no planning and minimal scheduling but at the same time I’m ready for routines and schedules.  And I think the kids are secretly looking forward to the same.

So for this fave five I bring you pictures.  Pictures of our Summer Down Under (Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast)

I can’t believe that school starts next week.  We had a great summer break.  And once again we’re ready to for another school year.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer and now I leave you with this quote:

If we take care of the moments , the years will take care of themselves.

Me: sure.

Tanysha: (while I’m brushing and tying) so mum do you like my hair?

Me:  Of course I do.  It’s so cute and curly.  Of course.

Tanysha: (with a smile on her face) That’s good to know because I just cut it!

Corner View # 16 – Best Kept Secret.

Corner View this week is “Best Kept Secret”  Well it won’t be anymore after this post!!!

So the Diplomat/Ambassador in me wants to share my home country of Papua New Guinea because it really is a land of the unexpected.  With over 700 different tribes with as many languages it is a unique place.  And to me is the “Best Kept Secret”.

But for today and for this corner view I want to share something I learnt so long ago and to me really is a “best kept secret”.

And so here it is -

The best kept secret to being happy ………

Being Content.  Contentment.

No matter what, no matter where – if you are content, your happy.

And who doesn’t want to be happy?

DSCF6292 (this is me and my son – I think his face say’s it all for me)

For more secrets visit Jane.

I’m having fun with Corner View but now it’s time for a break.

But only a break from Corner View but not a break from visiting all you wonderful people who participate in Corner View.  I’ll still be around.

Looking forward to September!!

Sharing Sunday’s Thoughts on Monday.

Everything in life is a matter of choice.  Our own choice.

I often tell my kids this but I always make  sure to follow that up with - “and every choice you make will have a consequence, an affect, either a good or a bad one and whatever it is you better be prepared to accept it”.

I know it’s heavy stuff for a 9 and 5 year old but to me it’s the truth.

Making choices is something we do everyday.  Some on the spur of the moment and well other’s we ponder over a little bit more and sometimes we even seek the advice of those we trust.

Life has gotten loud for me lately.  It’s been busy and well roller coaster like.  And so here I am asking myself am I making the right choices today?  Are they choices made by what I believe or what I see?

I hope you all had a great weekend and that your week will be beautiful.

Okay Slow and Steady…

So I kicked up the ante this week with my exercising schedule.  Now I mean really picked it up.  3 days of weight training (and my trainer made me work, really hard) and the other 2 I do an hour of Billy Blanks Ultimate Boot Camp.  I’m so thankful I invested in these  videos like 4 years ago.  Yeah you could say I kicked it up a notch.

Unfortunately though I think my body has  gone into shock and is in “hang onto that fat” mode.  Don’t let go!!!

Yep after another week I lost 1.8pounds.  Only 1.8.

Oh well I still feel good.  I’m sleeping well, and generally I just feel better.

I’m going to keep at it even if the scale isn’t so encouraging.  Anyway isn’t it just number?

Friday’s Fave Five # 18

springtime FF5

Friday is upon us again.  Oh where does the time go to?  I’ve had a busy week but really would you have it any other way?!! I hope you all had a good week yourselves.

If you’re wondering what this meme is about click here for details.  Or visit Susanne’s at Living to Tell The Story.

1.  Getting help!! It’s not always an easy thing to ask for help but I did it.  I’ve read a lot about weight loss and what to do and how to do but like they say easier said(for my case read) than done.  So I decided to ask for help.  And I’m glad that I did.  I’m getting some help from a professional trainer and he’s going to help me shed some pounds.  It feels good to have help.

2. Speaking with my sisters.  I haven’t spoken to them in a while so it was nice to hang on the phone and chat. We’re close and there is always so much to catch up on.  And we always have a good laugh.  That’s always good.  It was great to catch up.

3.  Trying something new.  So I buy fruit almost everyday here because not only is it good for you but it’s cheap.  Thailand is blessed – so much grows here.  Here’s the problem though, almost always I buy the same old stuff,  so yesterday I decided that I should try something different and this is what I had.

So play along here……anybody want to have a guess what this fruit may be?  Don’t you just love the color?

DSCF7069 DSCF7078

4.  Meeting up with friends again after a long summer break.  There are a couple more weeks left but  people are beginning to return from their holidays and it’s nice to see old faces and of course new faces too.

5.  Thank You Hershey’s. Oh I’m so grateful that I found these chocolates at our little supermarket the other day.  It just made my day.  Low calorie chocolate!! Now I don’t have to feel so guilty.  You gotta  love it.

Well there you are my Fave Five.

What made your week?  Do share.  And don’t forget to visit Susanne our lovely host and also see what made other bloggers happy this week.

Happy Weekend!

-Oh and the fruit, it’s a dragon fruit.  Not sure why they gave it that name.  And it was delicious.  Different but great.

I’ve got a sore neck!!

So I looked skyward yesterday, in fact I looked up a lot but it wasn’t a very good day to be sky gazing.  It was a dreary and overcast day.  And it rained periodically throughout the whole day.

DSC01484

So but here’s the thing, when they (meaning the news guys, CNN to be exact) said that Asia would have the best view of the lunar eclipse I thought Thailand was included in that.  But we weren’t.  Apparently it was India and China that were going to have the best views.  In fact it was reported that the airports in china had to go in night mode.

Anyway so I didn’t see or experience the lunar eclipse.  And therefore no pictures.  I’m sure you’ll be able to find them all over the internet.

I’m a little disappointed because it really would have been great to have seen and experienced it.

Corner View # 15 – 7.45pm Weekend Edition

This week Corner View is “7.45pm”.  I can’t wait to see the different interpretations of this weeks theme and what people are up to at this hour of the day.

So here is what life had for me on

Friday……

DSCF6946

7:45pm - Stuck in traffic. This happens often no matter how well you plan.

We were on our way home from a dentist appointment and then dinner at the “Secret Recipe”.

Saturday…….

DSCF7060

7:45pm - my son in his baby hammock.  I was swinging him to sleep but of course stepped away to take this photo.  We were waiting on him to fall asleep so we could watch a movie.  It’s hard to get out to the movies with a 1 year old so we set-up at home for a movie.

We watched “Paul Blart:  Mall Cop”.  We had a good laugh.

And then Sunday………………..

DSCF7019

7:45 - A foot in my face!

I finished bathing Joshua and was drying him (and also trying to get my photo.  I’m sure he’s telling me to get that camera out of his face!!!

I’ll Be Looking Up Tomorrow ..….

There is suppose to be a lunar eclipse tomorrow.  It’s always exciting to be able to experience such wonders and mysteries of the great big sky above us.

So wherever you are tomorrow make sure to look up.

Last year I remember we were treated to this – heaven smiling down on us!

After One Week……

I can’t believe that I’ve been consistent with my exercise for a whole week.  If you know me I’m not very good at being consistent. But I’ve managed to get on the treadmill and walk and run and sweat and pant for a whole week.

Wow I am amazed at myself.

So  after a week today is  weigh in day.  You know like how they do it at Weight Watchers.  My moment of truth.  I  stepped on the scale and (drum role please)

I lost……..

1 POUND.

1 Stinking pound.  Ugh I can’t believe that. I probably sweat more than a pound this week.

Oh it’s hard to believe that it was only a pound but I refuse to be discouraged.  At least it was a pound huh. Scales moving in the right direction isn’t it?  Please tell me that one pound is good?

Anyway it’s a new day today, the start of another week.  I’ve recorded my one pound loss and I’m going to do it all over again for another week.

Friday’s Fave Five – # 17

springtime FF5

I hope you all had a wonderful week . We did over here even though the computer crashed and a couple of us are still battling the flu but otherwise it was a great week.

So here is my Fave Five for this week .  For more Fave Five’s check in at Susanne’s, Living To Tell the Story.

1.   My husband who knows a thing or two about computers. And thank goodness for that because our computer died for a couple of days.   But it’s all good now!

2.  Good news from home.  I spoke with my mum this week and it was great to hear that Dad is doing well.  He is slowly regaining his strength and putting the weight back on.  There truly is nothing like home and being able to eat foods that you are used too.  Dad spent almost 7 months with me in Thailand and I know he was ready to go back home.  To go back and be surrounded by what he is familiar with.  And that is not only his simple life in the village but also the foods that he is used.  Staples like like fish and sago and casava.

3.   Lipton’s 3 in 1 Vanilla Tea.  I just love this tea and maybe just a little too much.  Something about it that makes me calm down.

vanilla tea

4. A neat Reminder.  So I found this blog on Willow’s side bar blog links – Jules in PNG and I loved it.  In case you are wondering what or where P.N.G is it’s my home country, my home island in the Pacific Ocean.  Jules blog just had so many photos that they  reminded me of how beautiful my country really is.  It was breath taking. I’ve been away from home for such a long time and it was just awesome to see the beauty captured the way this blog did.  I love the photo’s she posted.  And her writing is not bad either.  Of course our tiny country has it problems but I believe PNG is blessed with such natural beauty and riches.

5. Chocolate.  I just love chocolate.  And right now Guylian chocolate.  I love that they are chocolate shaped shells!!  Oh and they taste pretty good too.

guylian1 That is my latest craze.  I’m just loving this stuff right now.  I hope that I  get over it soon for 2 reasons – firstly it’s expensive and secondly well it’s just sabotaging my exercising efforts!!

Have a great weekend everyone.

H1N1 in Thailand

This is a common sight here. People with masks on.

swine flu

Even before the H1N1 flu people around here would wear the face masks.  I'm not sure why but I'm assuming it's to limit the inhalation of fumes from the vehicles in Thailand.  And believe me there are a lot of them.

Anyway this morning while listening to the news I heard that the Thai govt announced it's going to hand out around 10 million masks around the country.  Thailand's total fatalities from H1N1 this morning was 21.  And now it's 24. 3 more died just after lunch.

It's a little worrying. I had planned to take the kids out today and in the next couple of days as their holidays near the end but now I'm not so sure now.  I think we are safer in our own house.

The latest - about 435 schools, 200 nurseries and 13 training centers in the Bangkok area have been closed for the next 5 days!!

P.S Make sure to come back tomorrow for Corner View # 14 - the great reveal!  I promise I won't be wearing a mask!

Chupa Chups!

So 2 weeks ago we packed our bags and were off.

We were all excited but I was especially anxious as this was Joshua's first trip in an air plane.  My two girls are old enough to keep themselves entertained but you have to agree with me that  in-flight entertainment has really come a long way.

But here is why I was anxious -  how do you keep an active 13 month old entertained in confined space, thousands of feet in the air and then try to explain to him that what's happening to your ears will go away if you do this or that.   And all the while getting those "looks"  from the other passenger saying with that look - please "sshh" your child.

Oh yeah you could say I was just a tad nervous!!!

Well after a near total of 30 hours of flying (not all at once of course) I'm very proud and happy to say that JJ was such a little angel.   Apart from his first take off which frightened him everything after that was smooth sailing, or should I say flying!!

Thanks JJ for handling it so well and thanks Chupa Chups for being there for me!! Oh yes you were great.

If you are wondering what Chupa Chup's are they are lolly pop's (a sucker).  They really do help when it comes to flying with kids.
