Wow, it’s Friday. It’s been a productive week for me which has been great. And I feel like I accomplished a lot on my “to do” list.
And it’s time again to share with you my high points, happy moments of this week. So here they are:
1. Seeing kindness. The women’s fellowship group in our community had a bingo night which I heard was so much fun. But what I loved about it was that these women raised about 20 000 baht(around about 600 dollars) from that night for Operation Smile. I learnt that the money will go towards children having surgery done on their cleft lips. I just love that when kindness goes a long way.
2. Diversity. I love being surrounded by people from all over the world. There is just so much we can learn from each other. And I love the opportunity for children to learn about different countries.
3. Running on my treadmill. Yes I love running and especially that feeling after I’ve run.
4. Ice Lemon Tea. From Starbucks. And having tea with a friend.
5. It’s never too late………… I guess. I signed up for a piano class. I hope I enjoy it. I really would like to learn the guitar but I think I’ll start with the guitar.
Thanks Susanne for hosting Favorite Five. Check out her blog to see who else is playing.
Happy Friday and Great weekend everyone!

This weeks Corner view – “Menu al dia”.
Thailand has a restaurant for everyone and every taste. Really every craving can be satisfied.
But if you were to come around to my corner, authentic Thai food would be something I’d encourage you to try. I know spicy is not for everyone but there are some Thai dishes that you can have minus the spice.
Like this one that I absolutely love. And that is Pad Thai. Pad Thai literally translated is “Thai style frying”.
It’s a dish of stir fried rice noodles with eggs, fish sauce, tamarind juice, red chilli pepper, plus any combination of bean sprouts, shrimp, chicken or tofu. And it’s garnished with crushed peanuts, coriander and lime. the juice can be added along with other Thai condiments.
This is one that you must try.
Before I go do you tip or not tip?
The last place I lived in was in USA and of course every time we went out for dinner at a restaurant we tipped. Even if the service was not that great, it was just one of those things. But here in Thailand tipping is not expected unless you have dinner at a hotel restaurant. But of course all waiters appreciate a small token but the usual 10% is not expected like it is in the West.
What are your thought on tipping…… Do share.

I love an opportunity to share with others a little about my home country. And it’s even more exciting to be able to share that with children, elementary school children. I get excited that in a small way we can open their minds and offer them a learning experience (without travelling) about this world.
I am all about diversity and I love it when school and parents work together to create a diverse learning opportunity.
I’m hoping to get busy in the next couple of weeks with International Week at school. We had a meeting this morning and the enthusiasm of the parents was awesome.
Here are some of our quick brainstorming ideas. We also had reps from Netherlands, South America, India, Israel, Philippines, and Croatia. It should be exciting.

This weeks theme: Bird(s)
Here are some pretty flamingoes from the San Diego Zoo. When we visited back in 2004.
The photo below is of the Bird of Paradise Birds that they had a couple of in the zoo. These birds are the national symbol for Papua New Guinea (my home country). It was exciting to see these birds showcased half way across the world. made me proud!!

Hooray for Fridays. Don’t you just love them?
Well here I am again to share my five favorite things of this week. Want to check out who else is playing click here and visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.
1. Domestic Help (especially when you don’t have family around). I was down and out for a couple of days this week, thanks to something I ate. So I was extra thankful for the help that I have with keeping my house and laundry under control. Moe (my helper) is one awesome lady. God Bless her heart.
2. Vegemite. I love Vegemite and being sick I was a little paranoid with my food, so toast with butter and vegemite was safe for me. I’m thankful that the grocery store right here carries it. I don’t have to travel far (like I used to back in the US) to find it.
3. Discounts. It’s always a lovely surprise when you get a discount on your bill, especially medical bills. I was pleasantly surprised not only for my bill but also my sons. Yes he also got a stomach bug and has been throwing up a lot too. But today he’s doing much better.
4. Changes in the house. Nothing drastic just a little moving of the furniture here and there. It does bring about a fresh feel to my home. And I love it……until the next time I get an itch to rearrange furniture.
5. Christmas is in the air. And I love it. Even here in Thailand where over 90% of the population are Buddhists. I’m thankful that there is that freedom and respect of each others beliefs.
How about you, how was your week?
Thanks Susanne, you are a great host! Happy Weekend Everyone!

I’m starting early……well early for me that is. I usually wait till after the day of Thanksgiving on the calendar, even though we don’t do Thanksgiving (but we’re always thankful). I’m a procrastinator, just have always been and so this time round I plan on getting it done early.
How about you, have you started your holiday/Christmas shopping already?
p.s. - so incase you’re wondering about my CV photo’s here is what they are.
Picture 1. – at ice skating rink with my girls. someone left their handprints in the ice. my husband called to see if we were having fun. (the boys stayed at home)
picture 2. – new signs in our community. (not too sure why, maybe I don’t know something!!) on my way to Starbucks when a parent called to RSVP for my daughters b’day party this weekend.
picture 3. – inside Starbucks. Another parent called for b’day party RSVP.
picture 4. – on my way to the Christmas decor factory. A friend called and asked if I knew where she could find a Christmas tree. told her I was going to see some and asked if she wanted to join me.
picture 5. - on my way to school to pick up daughter. another rsvp for party. hey do you think I’m going to be busy at the party?!

So the premise for this weeks theme: to take a random picture of whatever you see, with your cell phone, when someone calls you, and then post 5 of them.
So here are my five for your eyes….. and minds!!

This is what my daughter brought home from her field trip to the Lumber Yard yesterday. It’s actually bamboo and if you look closely you can see a slit in it. Well that is where you’d put your coins. So technically you could call this a “Bamboo Bank”.
Tanysha was excited about this trip to the Yumber Lard is what she called it at first. (We had a good laugh!). They’ve been learning about wood for Science and so I’m guessing to wrap up the topic a field trip was in order.
I did not go on the trip so I don’t have photo’s but there are some photo’s on their classroom blog if you’d like to visit.
Actually I’m going to kindly ask if you could visit their blog. (I did get permission from the teacher) Because I know Mrs. B. and her class would be happy to see their visitors map light up. Who knows it may even spark some discussions about the world map.
Thanks in advance!
