Keep on following that Star.

Christmas came and went and there is only 1 day left for this year 2008.  It has gone so fast it is hard to believe but yes 2008 is coming to an end.

So much has happened in the last 12 months.  And there is so much to be thankful for – the good and the bad.

But as seasons and things change, people and circumstances around us change – I am so grateful in my heart that even as I’m getting ready to turn the calendar, to leave behind 2008 and learn from it and hold onto dear memories made throughout the year, and as I prepare myself for a fresh new start,  I am so thankful that there is One that does not change.  And that One is Jesus - He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  For that I am truly thankful.

So like the Shepherds that followed that Star to Bethlehem and brought gifts for the newly born King. I don’t want to get stuck in the stable.   I want to continue to follow that Star.  Because I know in my heart that Jesus is my one constant, He will never change – even as we turn the calendar from 2008 to 2009.

Happy New Year Every one .

Wishing you all Happiness and Health from my family to yours.

So much more of Thailand in 10 Days….

I have now lived in Thailand for about 16months.  But I can honestly say that I have learnt more about Thailand in the past 10 days than the past 16months. I guess I’ve been so busy trying hard to settle in and learn everything that I haven’t made time to see this place that I am now living in.

Maybe it’s because both my Mum and Dad and brother are here visiting that it has forced me to go out (with 3 children in tow) to explore this country – and I am so glad because this is such a beautiful country with so much history.

We made a trip up to the North of Thailand, which was a 10 hour drive but so worth it.  We went to the first capital of Thailand, Sukothai which was about 5 hours into our road trip.  We visited the Historical ruins and what was once the Kings Temple.  We also saw so many Buddha images – many ruined and some also stolen.

We then moved onto Chiang Mai – this was such a beautiful place.  We saw more temples (Wat’s as they call them here in Thailand) and more Buddha images. But in Chiang Mai we also got to see an extensive range of handicrafts, an orchid farm and a butterfly farm.  But I would have to say that the most exciting part of our trip for us all was the elephant trekking.  This was fun and a little scary every now and then but we enjoyed it.  It is truly a once in a life time experience.

There is so much history to this country and as I saw so much Buddhism. I know this country has a large majority of it’s people practice Buddhism, but to go and see so many images of Buddha and the respect that is shown to the Buddha’s kind of hit it home.

I’m sorry this is such a long post but I have to get it down before the turn of the calendar year.

So many photo’s to share but I’m only going to post a couple.  If you want to check out my other photo’s face book me.

My Christmas Song List. Number .......

number 1 O Holy Night

I just love this song - every version that I've ever heard,  I love.  I think it's because no matter what twist they put on it, the words of the song are the same.  Well that's my Fave five for this holiday season.

As you read the  lyrics of the first verse I hope you are blessedjuggling snowman.

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
O night, O holy night, O night divine

number 2 Drummer Boy

This is such a cool song.  Again there are so many versions but this time round I'm enjoying the version from "Jars of Clay".  For as long as I can remember I've always loved this song - as a kid I remember the "pa rum pum pum pum was always the best part to sing.  Just the other day I was singing this song to myself and my 4 year old heard me and asks me: "what are you singing?".  I answered her saying a Christmas song.  She quickly turned around and said to me - that's not a Christmas song, I don't hear the word Christmas or Christ in it so it can't be a Christmas song.  That may be true but this is one Christmas song through and through.

This simple song reminds me that whatever it is that we have big or small God will accept it from us.  Whatever the gift is we have to offer to our King - God looks at our heart attitude.

I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

As Christmas day nears what gift do you have ready to place before Him?

He Made a Way in a Manger

This song is just such a beautiful song.  The words and the music - absolutely beautiful.  I'm sure as a child one of the first carols you learnt was "Away in a Manger."  Well this song goes a step further and shares how God made a way for us in that manger.  For me it reminds me of the true meaning of Christmas.  I know that I get carried away with all the bright sparkles of the marketing part of this season, so carried away with the shopping etc - but this song brings me back to that manger and what happened there that historic night and how that gift of love made that way for me!

From the first word till that last - this song is about the lyrics.  Ponder this line in the song:

"But God displayed his mercy, the greatest gift of love, when we could not reach heaven, heaven came to us".

Christ did truly come to us - not on a red carpet, or like any King would make an entrance but He came to us in a very humble way - in a manger.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

This song by NYSNC is one of my favorites because it's just one of those that puts you in that mood for the Holidays.  The gathering of family, the sharing of gifts, the outpouring of love, the spirit of giving and of course the food! Not only are the words so festive but the beat of it is such a happy one!!

One of the lines says "And with the blessing from above, God sends you his love and everybody's okay".

Isn't that so true - when God's love is there everybody and everything is okay.

What's Your Fave Five?

christmas music sheet

With less than 10 days to go "Christmas is in the Air" - even here in Thailand where they don't even recognize/celebrate  Christmas!

The stores are beautifully decorated and there are Santa's everywhere.  But you know what I'm enjoying - the Christmas music which is everywhere.  Joyful songs blaring through the PA systems! It truly does put you in a jolly mood!!

Well with all this music in the air I've decided to blog about my Five favorite Christmas Songs over the next couple of days.   There are so many and my list could go on and on but I will limit it to five - hence my "Fave Five!"

Why not go ahead and join me in this Fave Five List.  It's real easy - Share with us five of your favorite Christmas carols or songs and tell us why it is your favorite.

Before I start begin did you know there is a difference between a Christmas Carol and a Christmas Song.  Yep there is a difference!!

So here goes.....

 number 5      Silent Night

I love this carol!  Yes this is a Christmas carol and a very popular one at that.    I know there are so many versions and in so many different languages.  But whenever I hear this song it reminds me of when I was little girl and how this song would be the one we would always want to sing at school, at church and at home.  Even if we did not know the words we would always hum along.

The lyrics are beautiful but this one line  "silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright"  just brings such a calmness and peace over me.

My mind visualizes Mary and Joseph on that night in Bethlehem and how scared they must have been. I can also imagine that there must have been a calmness that came over them, that peace they had because they knew in their hearts that God was in control. I'm sure when they saw their situation Mary must have been anxious as she was preparing to birth the Son of God and Joseph must have been have been panicking because he wasn't able to find a comfortable place for his wife to give birth.

It must truly have been a Silent Night because the "Shepherds were quaking at the sight!"

This is really a beautiful song.

I have been too busy.

Last night....ummm this morning I am feeling guilty.  Guilty that I have become too busy and I am ashamed to admit this but my priorities are off.   I may have too much going on that I am too busy or even worse I have too many unnecessary things going on that I'm mismanaging my time and not getting my priorities right.

Basically, I've become so  busy and caught up in this busyness  that my special and quiet time with God has suffered.  It's so bad that it has come down to quick "Bless me please" prayers - as if I'm talking too some genie or something. "shame on me!"

My Father in heaven deserves better.  He deserves so much more.

I am so going to work hard this week to do things differently, to review what I'm doing and set my priorities right.

I so need to "Be Still".

Last Night was a Special Night.

It was fun to step outside last night and look up at the sky and see a celestial face smiling back.

DSCF2263

(The above is the best shot out of many that I got.  If you also saw the smiley face and don't mind sharing your photo's please email me)

How often does that happen??

Well apparently every five years a "planetary conjunction" when 2 brightest planets are extremely close together. I learnt today that those two planets were Jupiter and Venus.

It was exciting.  The children were excited calling up their friends and telling them to see the smiley face in the sky.

It was amazing.

How awesome is our God?
