Some lessons

IMG_0123So last week my 6 year old wanted to totally crash a birthday party over the weekend!!

She reasoned to me that I could take her to the play facility where the party was going to be (because of course it’s open to the public) but then when it would be cake and present time she just wouldn’t join  the “party”.

I laughed at my daughters shamelessness but I could also see the heartbreak in her eyes.  She just couldn’t understand why she hadn’t been  invited while her good friend was.

Oh dear… There are some lessons in life that you just can’t talk to your children about but they must also be experienced.  And so I felt that this was an opportune time  for us to talk  about  the reality of life.

So I  talked and she listened, reluctantly as I explained how sometimes we’ll just not be invited to a party,  and then there will  be times when she’ll be invited but her  friends might not be.

At 6 years of age I don’t know if you can totally understand that.  But the feeling of being left out always hurts.  And that’s natural, even as adults I think we feel that sometimes.  But that’s life.

Anyway the weekend came and went and Rohan and I made sure to keep her busy.  I guess it worked because she didn’t mention the party once!

That's tough - not just for her but I bet it was hard on you too. Sounds like you handled it really well!

That breaks my heart. I know it's life, but it's hard when life is not very nice to our children. Fortunately, you made it up for her, and she'll have learned that there is disappointment but also special and unexpected pleasures.

That's a very hard lesson to learn. Sometimes life isn't fair, but it can always be enjoyed nonetheless. :) I'm glad she still enjoyed the weekend!

It is so sad when that happens. I feel for your baby because I've been there myself as a little girl. But what a wonderful mother she has! Blessings to you both!

Oh....it is always so hard, the life lessons we need to help teach our children! I know that it has saddened me when I see my children left out, even though I know that's what life is like. perhaps it stirs up childhood memories of my own.
