And so without further ado here is this week’s theme:
SEPTEMBER
Here in Thailand there is something on every month. This month there is the “Bathing Buddha Ceremony” and the Swan Boat Races.
But for me this is always special month. No matter where I am and how far away I am from my home country – which would be Papua New Guinea it is on this day that we gained our Independence.
So we celebrate the Independence of our young country.
I know for a fact that schools back at home have had special assemblies where the children are encouraged to dress in their traditional costumes and perform dances or songs for their parents. I love those assemblies and I remember them well.
Well my children don’t have have assemblies to participate in but thankfully they do have International Day at their school and so that is the time when I get to talk to them about their home country and when they get to dress up.
Tanysha on International Day last year.Renee trying out the head dress we were making from feather dusters. Joshua taking part – all dressed up.
Well we don’t have a very big PNG community here in Bangkok so as a family we just remember, reflect and hope that our young country will continue to move forward.
Hepi Independence ol wantok blo mi!!
(translation – Happy Independence to all my friends from PNG).
I’m looking forward to checking out September happenings around the world.
