Corner View – Love (in Thailand)

Welcome to Corner View.  This weeks theme comes from Jodi and it’s Love.

Ahh love,  such a universal and personal thing/feeling so I’m really looking forward to visiting every corner and seeing the many interpretations of this theme.

Well since arriving in Thailand almost 2 years ago I noticed almost immediately the very large pictures of the King of Thailand everywhere.  This is not an exaggeration – they are  really everywhere.  Like the one below.

But not only was it the billboards that were noticeable but what struck me was the general mood of the Thai people and their reverence for their King.  As an observer I see such admiration and love.

So much love.  I don’t think it’s done out of fear of him because he is King,  but they do it because they really do love him.

In the year the King celebrated his 80th birthday (which was 2 years ago),  on Monday’s almost everyone would wear a yellow t-shirt with “Long Live the King” embroidered on them.  They did this in honor of their King.

Yellow is the Kings color.

As a visitor it’s hard to understand and describe what I see,  but I  admire it.  This love and respect that they have, it’s a beautiful thing.

I’m sure the King feels the same way about His people, His subjects.  There are stories and records of the many wonderful projects that he has done to better the lives of the Thai people.

I think he has a deep love and care for them all that  everything he has done is to better the lives of the people of Thailand.

I still haven’t figured out how to add a video to a post so I’m just going to add a link.  Please click on it.  I think it may give you an idea of how the Thai’s feel about their King.

Why Do The Thai People Love Their King.?

Have fun visiting other corner’s for this week’s theme of Corner View.

I think that's really neat. In a time when people criticize their leaders so frequently, it's nice to hear he is loved. Now I'm going to check out your link.

I don't know much about the king of Thailand, but it's good that he was a leader able to gain the respect and love of his people: a real king!

He is so gentle and tender with the Thai people, no wonder they love him so.

What a great perspective on love! Sometimes I do think we miss out on the reverence for authority. Technology has made everyone so accessible!
