Corner View # 10 – Street Fashion

This weeks Corner View is Street Fashion.

This was tricky because I’m hesitant to take pictures of people that I don’t know.  But I went through my photos and found some.  So here are some random pictures on the streets of Thailand.

Does it look like every second person is wearing yellow? – well they are.  In my first year in Thailand the King celebrated his 80th birthday and in honor of that every Monday everyone, well almost everyone wore a yellow shirt to honor  their King.

DSC01802This picture I took at Pattaya.  And is actually a common sight.  People paying their respect, burning incense.  I’m not too sure who the statue is of but I think he was a famous sailor.

If it’s not a person they are paying respect to then it is a Bhudda Statue.  Like the one below.  These shrines are also a common sight everywhere in the streets.

DSC05450There are also “bikies” everywhere.  This is a mode of transport and a very convenient and efficient one because of the traffic.

And food stalls are everywhere too.  Everywhere you turn someone is cooking.  It’s like everyone here can cook and make money from it.

Monks are also a common sight on the streets.  I know these are only boys but I don’t have pictures of any grown up monks.  Apparently they come out early in the mornings and stand with their bowls hoping for generous donations.  Donated food and goods are all they live by so they rely and trust on the goodness of people.

These next pictures are from my visit to china town…

And the last one is from downtown Bangkok on a Sunday afternoon. Thai dancers entertaining the people.

What a great post, Kari! I noticed the yellow right away - I read about the King's birthday in one of the royalty magazines I read and know the Thai's people penchant for yellow. I love the pictures of the street vendors - everything looks delicious. I would love to visit your corner of the world. How's the move coming along?

So many interesting tid-bits (I don't know where that word came from?!),
like the yellow, and the orange on the boys, and the different street scenes you showed. Thanks, it's a great way to know more of life in your corner.
Best to you,

Beautiful pictures!

I have always wanted to visit Thailand. I especially like the shot of the woman smiling in Chinatown. She is holding a bag full of goods and the look on her face says that all is right with the world.

What a great feeling!

I love your photos, yes straight away I noticed the yellow - so striking. I love the photo of the lady laughing, that's so natural and gorgeous! Also the warm sunshine looks great.

I love your streets! They are wearing so many people! I too struggled with the idea of taking photos that had people I didn't know in them so went with the street view too. I love the shot of the young monks and all the mopeds/motorbikes lined up! Makes me want to visit!

Great shots Kari, wonderful post. BTW, I posted the only shot I got of the martian lady. It was under the disguise of photographing my dog so I got her feet. FUNNNNY!

Ooh I loved this! So interesting to see such a different culture. And I'm pretty sure if there were monks walking along our streets people would give them some strange looks. Great corner view!
