Corner View “Spring”

DSC05519Thailand only has 3 seasons.  The dry/cool season (nov-feb), the hot season (march-june) and the rainy season (july-october).  For me that translates to hot, very hot and too darn hot and humid.

Right now it’s very hot and we are bracing ourselves for the “too darn hot” season and the dreaded power bill that comes along with it!!DSC05525One thing  for certain is this,  for the weather that we have here all year round there is always a beautiful display of all sorts of  flowers.  It’s gorgeous.

Here are some of the flowers that I see almost every morning as I exercise around the lake and also have at home.  I’m trying to learn how to cultivate orchids on my own.  They say it’s easy but I’m not so sure.

For more Spring CV’s check out Jane’s sidebar.

Ida’s Challenge – Stranger # 8

Wow, 8 weeks of strangers!

DSCF5667-r1 Well here are  my strangers for this week.

Tourists - (farangs in Thai). And I think back packers to be specific.   I’m not too sure where they’re from because I took this from my car on my way home from downtown.

I remember when I travelled as a back packer. Definitely the most interesting travels I ever had.  How about you?

For more strangers visit Ida.

Over Already….

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

DSCF5673

Our’s was lovely with friends visiting from Indonesia, lots of food, a little bit of work around the house, new flowers, rugby games we watched on TV, basketball games we managed to follow by live streaming online  (although the commentary was in Spanish! and keeping track of my kids with their friends.

And now it’s to rest time and get ready for another week.

And it’s Holy Week  before Easter Sunday.  So Happy Week.

Photo Hunters: Fresh

photohunters2mo1

This weekend’s theme is Fresh.  Here are my picks for this weekend.  There is nothing more fresh and refreshing than a waterfall.

This was at the Erawan National Park here in Thailand.DSCF2051DSCF2052There were also fish in the water that gave ‘free” fish therapy.  We tried it out.  At first it felt strange but we quickly got used to it and it was goodbye to dead cells!!DSCF2186DSC09797   For more “Fresh” photo’s head on over to TNChick.

Happy

DSC00440

I’m happy that it’s Friday and the weekend is here.

Happy that Renee did well today at her gymnastics competition despite a disrupted month of practices.

Happy that my parents are well and my sister is coming along nicely with her pregnancy.

Happy that I made a commitment to do something for myself and did it.  Yep no excuses.  Just did what I set out to do.

What are you happy about?

Have a great weekend!

Corner View “Typical Architecture”

Thai architecture is very distinct and very traditional.

I’ve seen both extremes.  From a very simple Thai stilt home to some of the most extravagant, colorful multi-tiered rooflines with ornamental decorations and crafted gold-adorned Buddha images.

DSC06915-r1First glance of a temple like this one above I always thought it to be representative of the typical Thai temple,  but after visiting some of the temples around here and also some of the ancient ruins you learn that  “typical Thai architecture” at some stage had been influenced by the cultures of  Burma, China, Khemer, Sri Lanka and India – countries that surround the Thailand border.  And many of these temples reflect those influences.

Anyway of  the places I’ve visited so far here in Thailand there is one place that I’ve remained in awe of and it’s the Sanctuary of Truth.

Here are some of my photos.

Since August 07 016Since August 07 018-r1The reason why this place amazes me is that every sculpture you see has been hand carved. Since August 07 030   minus the people can you see the carvings in the back on the wall.Since August 07 019

Since August 07 009Since August 07 071I’m guessing that many of the workers work all year round because not only is this a job of a skilled carver but the building is also right near the sea,  so you can imagine what the salt water in the air does to the sanctuary.

Ida’s Challenge – 7/12 Stranger

DSCF5124here is my photo for this week’s stranger challenge..

These women were on their way home for the day.  Around 5 every afternoon I see groups of men and women either on their bikes or motorbikes on their way home after a day of work. They work as gardeners, maintenance crews or house cleaners for the serviced apartments here.

I think they saw me with my camera cause the lady in front sort of has a smile while the one at the back well she’s looking down.

For more stranger photo’s visit Ida who is our host for this challenge.  Thanks Ida.

Photo Hunters: Three

photohunters2mo1

This weekend’s theme: Three.

Here is my picture for this theme.  draw your attention not to the large statue but the three  little ones on the larger statues left.

I took this photo at Ayutthaya’s, ancient ruins.   DSCF1474 the three smaller statues are destroyed, only the base of them remains.

Corner View “Front Door”

We don’t use our front door very much, only when we have visitors.

If you were to come for the first time to my house I’d probably bring you through the front door, but if you came again I’d have you come around the side/kitchen entrance because well you came back and so why not come in through my kitchen where everything happens.

Anyway here is the view of my front door

and from the right.

For more “front doors” visit Jane.

Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home, sweet home
For there the heart can rest.

Ida’s Challenge – 6/12 Stranger

Wow we’re half way there with this challenge.  How awesome!!

Thanks Ida, I’m having fun people watching.  Well here are the rules one more time.  It’s not too late to join in if you are interested.

Rules:

1.: the person I take the picture of must be a stranger.

2.: show the pictures here every Tuesday for the next 12 weeks.

Bonus points for actually stopping a person and asking if I can take his/her picture.

So here is my picture for this week.

DSC06963A street vendor/walking salesman.

Because of the political protests happening downtown we haven’t been moving around much, just staying at home really.  But I managed to find this guy on my way to buy some fruit just outside the gates.

I bought my fruit but not any of those colorful characters!!
