Simple Things……

DSC05680 It’s a couple of days late  but I just came across this blog - Soul Aperture  by way of Mari’s blog and well here is my list of a couple of the simple things that make me happy and content and remember that life is good.

cool breezes. sunshine. kindness. smiles on people faces.  sand in my feet.  the smell of the sea breeze.  vegemite sandwiches. messy fingers from eating with your hands.  sitting on the floor cross legged.   just because phone calls.  hugs.  lemon tea.   clean sheets.   pillows.   flip flops.   waterfalls.   hand written letters. butterflies.   dogs wagging their tails.   spontaneous gatherings. children giggling.   adults laughing.   babies cooing.   serendipity. bright colors.   flowers.   a full moon.  melted butter on hot toast. bike rides.   long walks.   blue skies.    sunsets.   practical church. sunrises.  chocolate cake.  unexpected inspiration.   words that encourage.   goodness.   serenity.   watching children play.  bubbles. scented candles. quietness. calm seas.   sea shells. jumping on a trampoline.  Hibiscus flowers. diversity. reading. cultural experiences.

For everyone that participates and leaves a comment on Christine’s blog – she and her family will donate 1 US dollar to “Doctor’s Without Borders”. ( I know this organization has made their presence here in Thailand and also in Papua New Guinea.)

But for now it’s about Haiti.  What a great idea!

Good Bye January and a Late photo hunters.

At the beginning of the month the tree outside my bedroom balcony hardly had any leaves on it.  The sun would come out late and the weather was noticeably cooler and wonderful.

31 days later,  new life has come forth on the same tree, the weather is changing (and I’m not looking forward to it) and it seems like I’m getting busier by the day.   But all in all it’s been a good month.  I’m still doing life better, I realize that I don’t need coke and I’ve even lost weight!!  DSCF2731

Before I go here’s my late photo hunter.

Friday’s Fave Five # 43

FFF snowflakes

It’s been a busy week.  My days have been  full of activity and very eventful. But at the end of each day, I have laid in my bed and smiled and I’m thankful.

Thankful for…..

1.  My bed, specifically the mattress.  When we first bought the mattress I wasn’t too sure about it.  It was expensive and I’ve learnt that expensive does not always mean better.  But these last couple of days as I’ve staggered into bed when all has been done for the day I’m so thankful that we made that decision to buy a good mattress.

2.  Generosity and Kindness.  A couple  of weeks ago I sent out letters requesting sponsorships for a gymnastics competition that our school team is hosting.  It’s our first ever competition and naturally we’d like to be good hosts.  I have shamelessly picked up the phone and followed up on the letters and even made contact with companies that I didn’t initially think of sending letters too.  Let me just say it’s been a great week and companies and individuals have stepped up.  Thank you, thank you.  I’m so grateful.

3.  The Good Wife and The Mentalist.  I’m loving these TV shows.  The titles didn’t interest me in the beginning but now I’m addicted.

4. Lost another pound.  I started out the year with a goal to loose at least 4  - 5 pounds a month.  It’s the end of January and I didn’t make it.  I lost 3 though and I’m okay with that.  I’m working to tweak a couple of things in this lifestyle change.

5.  Practical Church and hearing my kids tell me that they love going to church.  I’m a believer and of course I hope that my kids will also believe and make that decision to follow Christ.  I feel responsible to make sure that I expose them to church but of course  in the end that is their decision to make.  For right now though they are loving church and it’s something they look forward too.  They’re also both interested in getting  involved with Operation Smile.  Tanysha told me after church that she has to save some money to help some children smile.

So there’s my five for this week.  I hope you’ve all had a great week. For more Five’s head on over to Susanne’s at Living To Tell the Story.

Happy Weekend.

Corner View: My Favorite Hangout.

Thanks Jane for Corner View.

I’m an island girl so my favorite hangout is the beach.  Whether the sun is high in the sky or setting for the day I feel right at home and somewhat safe when looking out at the open sea.

DSCF8214DSCF0876  My other favorite hangout is home sweet home.  Bangkok can get crazy.  traffic is stressful and life is moving at a fast pace.  So I make sure that home is quiet, cool and peaceful.  Where we can step in away from the busyness and move at our own pace.DSCF9224

Damper and Reminders

DSC00135Tanysha’s on a field trip today to a park.  She told me yesterday that she’ll be off to be in touch with “nature”.  The above handout was a reminder that she came home with. Isn’t it cute? Of course as a good mama everything was checked off!!

I would’ve loved to have gone with her but I had another commitment – to help Renee’s class celebrate Australia Day.  Her teacher is an “Ozzie” and so planned an alternative learning day.  Making damper, throwing boomerangs and singing Waltzing Matilda.  Of course all these activities integrated with their subjects.  Maths required for making the damper, science for boomerang throwing and of course singing for arts!!

I love it when classroom learning is made interesting!!

here are some pictures!

Friday’s Fave Five # 42

FFF snowflakes

I’ve had a full week, but a good one.  I’m thankful that it’s the weekend. Although this weekend we’re busy with a soccer tournament and a birthday party.

If you are new click here for the details of  Favorite Fives.  Thanks to Susanne who is our host, you can find her at Living To Tell the Story.

Well here’s my five:

1.  Good friends.  I’ve met many people, and know many by name.  And then there are those people whom you immediately make a connection with. I’m sure we all have those people in our lives.  Well this week I had lunch with 2 dear woman and I’ve become very good friends with them in my short time here in Thailand. They brought lunch – Thai food of course and I baked for them.  It was wonderful.

2. Good customer service.  I had to send some documents home through DHL this week and  was impressed with the service I received.  It’s sometimes difficult here  with the language but we managed to understand each other and all was done smoothly.

3. Corporate sponsors. I’ve been busy trying to secure sponsors for a gymnastics competition that's coming up.  It’s always encouraging when we get positive responses.  I am so so grateful.

4.  Massages.  Oh these are always great and to get an aroma massage during a busy week was just perfect.

5.  Orchids and water lilies . I got myself some orchids this week to brighten up my house and a water lily to put near my hose where the water seems to be always leaking. (I hope to get it fixed soon).

DSC00084 DSCF2743 I hope you all had a wonderful week.

And now have a great weekend…… you deserve it!

Birthdays.

DSCF2764

21 days into the new year and both girls have already been invited to 3 birthday parties each.  it seems like every week I’m making a trip to the mall for a birthday present.

I used to go straight to the toy stores but nowadays I go to the book shop instead and for my 10 year old it’s also board games but I’ve made a couple of trips to the body shop!

In the photo above is a book that I got for a friend of Tanysha’s.  I thought the book was just so cool I had to get one for Tanysha too.  It’s a Pop up, Pull out book.

Such a wonderful way to learn about other countries, way of life, way they dress etc, etc, etc.  Awesome book for kids I think.

What kind of presents  do you buy for children’s birthday’s?
